The charm of wood flooring in post-industrial buildings

The charm of wood flooring in post-industrial buildings

Converted industrial buildings are often fantastic as attractive, cosy dwellings with unique charm, just like the dwelling in Ravenna, created by renovating an old building once used as a vehicle body shop.

The project by Architect Franco Biagiotti and Interior Designer Monica Poletti is based on research into the materials of the historic period in which the construction was built, 1930, to create a well-balanced combination of old and new, in tune with contemporary home comfort also with regard to energy efficiency.

The wood flooring establishes a harmonious match with the other decor elements: structural beams in chestnut wood, flooring blocks made with clay from the Romagna hills, reminiscent of the old factory buildings in the area, and iron window frames that reproduce those originally used in the industrial shed. Splendid natural light streams in through the large windows and highlights the refined details of the floor in European walnut, a type of wood that boasts beautiful grain and features warm, exciting nuances and vibrant colour effects that become more marked over time.

The wood flooring comes from the Antico Asolo 3-layer line, and uses extra thick wood for both the visible top layer and the backing.  This solution ensures maximum stability over time and makes it possible to employ extra long boards with which to create an appealing impact. The boards have been laid with our straight course pattern to provide a more dynamic effect.

The vintage atmosphere of the house is enhanced by furniture of the same period and advertising posters from the early 1900s, one of the owners’ passions. A spectacular American walnut bookcase, designed and made to measure by CP Parquet, covers an entire wall and frames one of the most representative pieces of the collection, which includes posters designed by Cappiello, Dudovich and Seneca. This majestic bookcase, incorporates a hidden door and conceals access to the service stairs, custom made by CP Parquet, leading to the upper floors, bathroom and large mezzanine area, which also feature the same wood flooring as the living room and kitchen. All the wood flooring is made of renewable resources, that is to say PEFC-certified wood species from cultivated or responsibly managed forests. Environmentally-friendly, water-based varnish and adhesives that are not a threat to human health have been used for all finishes.

Beauty takes on new shapes at Domotex 2019

CP Parquet at Domotex 2019, Hannover, Germany

New decorative effects provide floors with fascinating geometrical patterns that are fantastically modern and dynamic.
Textures are created by using wood elements in different colours and shapes, composed in evocative modular patterns.  Innovation and tradition meet through these original ideas by CP Parquet due to exclusive, stunning design that expresses the very best in craftsmanship, as the compositions are created by hand during laying.

Our new decorative flooring is the latest stage in the creative system developed by CP Parquet over the years with 3D mosaics and Quadrotte. This research is distinguished by three valuable, distinct elements: design, the Made in Italy label and attention to detail with refined hand finishing.

At Domotex we will also be presenting a new line dedicated to enhancing the hues and nuances of ash wood, the World Tree (Yggdrasil) which in Norse mythology has roots that go down into the deepest part of the earth and branches that touch the highest point in the sky. The wood features wonderful, well-marked natural grain that sensually crosses the floorboard.

The elegance of ash wood goes beautifully with classic and modern styles, creating a refined, welcoming atmosphere throughout the house.

CP Parquet talks to the architects of Piacenza (Italy)

Wood Floor Laying and Sustainability’ an event dedicated to architects held at Piacenza on Friday 28 September, was a great success. The meeting dealt with subjects that are of great interest to those who design living space with a careful eye on quality and the environment.

After the opening speech by Giuseppe Baracchi, president of the Piacenza Order of Architects (Italy), the conference got under way with a talk by architect Marcello Dellarosa of Studio archiNOW regarding the different steps of a project, from its concept to fulfilment. Our sales director, Gianni Miatello, illustrated the supply chain stages, which are managed entirely in-house by CP Parquet, permitting total quality control, from drying the timber to refined hand-finished wood flooring. Elio Da Broi gave a practical demonstration of how pre-finished flooring is made and explained the characteristics that make CP Parquet wood flooring an exceptional product in terms of both aesthetics and reliability. Salvador Dalvano, president of the Italian Wood Floor Layers’ Association (AIPPL) did the honours to close the session, with a technical report about the different types of laying plans for wood floors.

The beauty of CP Parquet wood flooring charms the British capital, where we recently opened a magnificent show room, URBANE LIVING – 132 Wigmore St London W1U 3SD –  in one of the city’s most glamorous districts.
Together with other prestigious furniture brands, our wood floors create a stunning display area that highlights the excellence of decorative flooring.  Our entire range of flooring is displayed on large panels showing the Classico, Veneto and Matita lines, Linea ‘500 maxi boards, and the splendid chevron and herringbone patterns. The showroom floor features a specially designed square format, produced exclusively for this venue, in European oiled, rustic Vicenza oak, the same wood as the made to measure staircase leading to the lower floor. Research into formats and finishes, eco-sustainable products and careful selection of the best wood species confirm CP Parquet as a star of international design, worthy of its place in one of London’s most attractive and selective show rooms.

CP Parquet on truck with Mattia Guadagnini

CP Parquet is sponsoring a talented young Italian sportsman who lives in our hometown of Crespano.  We are proud to support Mattia Guadagnini, who at just 16 is one of the most promising motocross riders on the scene, as part of the Talenti Azzurri project set up by the Italian Motorcycling Federation. In August this year Mattia became junior motocross vice world champion in Australia, just missing first place by a hair’s breadth, due to an unfortunate skid towards the end of the race.  In Europe this year, astride his Husqvarna, he performed magnificently in the European EMX125 Championships, winning in Germany at Teutschenthal and in France at Saint Jean d’Angely. Maybe our homegrown boy will be the next Tony Cairoli…

Let’s face it, the most attractive floors are in wood, which irradiates warmth and charm in any room and creates intense, stimulating atmospheres. Well, yes, wood flooring is the best, but which brand can we rely on? In Italy there are numerous brands specialising in 100% Italian-made, skilfully crafted wood flooring that is robust, attractive and ideal for the home, but there is a company we consider better than the others. We are talking about CP Parquet, whose products bring a host of advantages, the most important of which is a choice of ecological wood flooring.

Many people feel that all wood flooring can be considered ecological, as it is made of a natural material. However, even if wood is a natural material, it is not necessarily an environmentally friendly choice, first and foremost because it may come from areas not managed responsibly, causing deforestation of green zones.  Secondly, because wood flooring may be treated with chemicals harmful to both the environment and our health. CP Parquet is a sustainable product, created with timber from responsibly managed forests and produced with renewable energy resources, fully observing the laws of nature and protecting human health.  Naturally, this is certified wood flooring and it has been awarded important recognition for its eco-sustainability.

Environmental sustainability is important, but CP Parquet also brings many other advantages. The standard of quality is extremely high and the product is designed to last over time, its beauty increasing year after year.  This is two or three layer flooring made of timber known to be reliable.  The manufacturing process is based on excellence and great care is taken to observe the natural cycle for drying, stabilising and varnishing, never forcing any of the processes.  This is extra thick, stable flooring that ensures greater resistance to wear, ideal in high-traffic areas.

Environmental sustainability, quality and resistance over time are the essential ingredients for CP Parquet, a brand that also looks out for the most important trends. The range features fashionable finishes in contemporary colours and varnishing to highlight the wood’s grain, details that contribute to enhancing today’s homes, designed to satisfy even the most demanding customers.  There is a truly vast range of colours and finishes so that anyone can find wood flooring that reflects their personality and is perfect for any room, style and decor. The variety of formats available besides traditional ones also make for extraordinary floors.

In other words, this type of wood flooring is just the thing for those who want the best for their homes, for a refined and environmentally sustainable house in line with their lifestyle. Why not ask for a quote?
